History

Established in 1931.

Clayton Café is a local, historical restaurant in Clayton, Georgia. We welcome locals and visitors with a smile and hug. Although ownership has changed hands several times since 1931, our true Southern hospitality has remained the same! Whether breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert, we offer fresh, homemade meals that are sure to please everyone! Great food, great service, great friends..this is the place to be!

Back before the Clayton Cafe became the Clayton Cafe it was the original Trailways Bus Station for Rabun County. When the bus station closed the Clayton Cafe was born. The original sign that is still used to this day in front of the Cafe is the Trailways Bus sign turned upside down. It has been painted and the Clayton Cafe name added. It is a part of the history of this county and the Cafe.

Another piece of the Clayton Cafe history that is a bit famous is our visit from Mr. Walt Disney. In 1956 Walt Disney brought his filming production team to Rabun County to film the Great Locomotive Chase. Mr. Disney loved our beautiful community and visited a lot of the local establishments. One of his favorites was The Clayton Cafe. When you dine in the Cafe you will see photos of him having his meals here.
